The Choral Museum

By Ianna Recco

On the 27 of February I went to the Chora Museum.

The Choral Museum is 4 kilometers from Nestor's palace.

There were three different rooms that were filled with ancient objects. In the first room there were lots of arrowheads, gold jewelry, jewels, ancient baby bottles, and various shaped pots. In the special case that the gold there were beads, bands, tufts, and gold birds, and owls that told how wealth the Messeneans were at that time. All these objects were found in tombs of princes.

In room two there was objects found by C. Blegen at Nestor's palace. This room contains detailed wall paintings and different types of pottery. The wall paintings were paintings of colorful designs of people and animals. My favorite picture had a picture of a lion and a griffin lying down. There were also a few models for the Linear B script. The original Linear B tablets are in the National Archaeological museum of Athens.

In the third room there was a pair of stone horns that were found in Nestor's Palace. There was also a huge vase that was used to put olive oil in. There were four big royal vases that were found in a tomb.

Outside the museum there were two burial pithois where are about eight feet tall and three and a half feet wide.
